On December 29, 2010, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), announced National Research Council Awards 2010 in for National Outstanding Researchers, Researches, and Doctoral Theses. The award is given annually to promote research development and honor Thai researchers who work in scientific and social science fields. In 2010, 64 awards (12 National Outstanding Researcher Awards, 19 Research Awards, and 33 Thesis Awards) were granted.
On this occasion, several researchers from the Institute of Molecular Biosciences (MB) were recognized as follows: Associate Professor Chanan Angsuthanasombat and Assistant Professor Gerd Katzenmeier were awarded with an “Outstanding Research Awards in Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy” on their research “Elucidation of Molecular Structure and Ion-selectivity of Bacillus Thuringiensis Toxin-induced Channels in Phospholipid Membranes” “Outstanding Thesis Award in Medical Sciences” was given to a Ph.D. graduate in Molecular Genetic and Genetic Engineering Program, Dr. Natee Jearawiriyapaisarn and his thesis advisor Professor Suthat Fuchareon on the thesis work “Splice-Switching Therapy in Genetic Diseases: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and ß-Thalassemia” An Honorable Certificate for Invention in Medical Sciences was also awarded to Dr. M.L. Saovaros Svasti and her team from the Thalassemia Research Center on the development of “a-Thalassemia Detection by Melting Curve Approach” The awards will be granted to the winners by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani on the National Inventor’s Day, during February 2-4, 2011.
